Hyundai Gears Up for Ioniq 5 CUV Premiere
Hyundai has given us more information about their upcoming Ioniq 5 CUV- here are some key points we know so far.

Like many brands, Hyundai has been investing heavily into its electric lineup- and that investment has resulted in the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 will have a North American premiere on Monday, May 24th 12:00 PM Pacific Time. Here is what we know so far.

The vehicle has a focus on ultra fast charging and has up to 300 miles of range. Two battery options will be available- a 58 kWh pack and a 72.6 kWh pack. The vehicle is capable of charging at 400 and 800 volts and with a 350-kW charger, the Ioniq can be charged from 10-80% in just 18 minutes. In addition the vehicle has what Hyundai is calling "Vehicle-to-Load" functionality which will allow owners to use the Ioniq 5's battery to charge smaller vehicles such as an electric bike or scooter. In terms of motors the vehicle is available with either only a rear motor or a motor in both the front and rear.

Hyundai also plans to discuss the styling of the vehicle in depth. The vehicle has clear cues from more recent Genesis products and has a very premium look- The squared off headlights break up a design featuring long swooping lines. The interior styling will be of particular interest as the vehicle utilizes dual 12 inch screens to convey information. Additional technology of interest includes an AR heads up display.

Another interesting interior feature deals with the seats- Hyundai was able to reduce the thickness of the front seats by 25%, greatly increasing interior space without expanding the vehicles exterior profile. The vehicle comes in at just 182 inches long and 74 inches wide.

Expect the Ioniq 5 in North American dealerships this fall. Keep tuned to Gas Guzzlers to learn more about this vehicle!
