The 2022 Ford Maverick has been unveiled and it just may be the new king of pickup trucks. Ford has a long heritage of building some of the best trucks on the market, with their F series pickups dominating the market for decades. This new Maverick comes in at a fraction of the size- and a fraction of the price- of those behemoths.
The headline feature? That $19,995 price point. For that you are getting an impressive hybrid setup which is targeting 40 mpg in the city. The hybrid uses a 2.5L four cylinder and delivers 191 horsepower when combined with the electric motor and 155 pound feet of torque, all sent through a CVT to the front wheels.
Also standard? An 8 inch touch screen featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle also features Ford Co-Pilot 360 technologies including automatic emergency breaking and automatic high beams.
Just because the truck is small does not mean Ford skimped on features. The vehicle features a 1,500 pound payload capacity and the standard powertrain can tow around 2,000 pounds. The optional 2.0L EcoBoost engine can tow up to 4,000 pounds- enough for a 23 foot camper! The 2.0L EcoBoost delivers 250 horsepower and 277 pound feet of torque. An 8 speed automatic sends power to the front wheels, or for an added cost, all four wheels.
This is all extremely impressive, but perhaps the coolest part of this truck is the bed. Ford has stamped slots into the bed where owners can slide in standard sized pieces of wood to create elevated floors, segmented storage, and more. Ford is enabling owners to create their own bed storage solutions. The bed also features a prewired 12V power wire which can be found behind an easily removable panel and used to power an array of DIY projects.
The 2022 Ford Maverick goes on sale this fall. Stay tuned to Gas Guzzlers for more.
